Simple Prototype for a Elevator Position Display

My dad wants to add an elevator position display LED pair to his home. We will use a laser beam that, when interrupted, changes an LED to on and another to off - vice versa for when the beam is non-interrupted. There are plenty of ways that this could have been done, but I chose a super simple route - an LDR --> voltage divider --> hex logic inverter --> LEDs. The prototype works.
