Aural Comparison of Ableton Live Dithering Options

When rendering out audio files, Ableton Live features a number of dithering options as can be expected. But how do these dithering options differ in terms of the noise type and energy variation? One way we can easily tell is by listening to them.

Ableton Live features six dithering options:
• No dither
• Rectangular
• Triangular
• POW-r 1
• POW-r 2
• POW-r 3



Six files were generated from an empty Live audio track. Each file was normalised. Listen to the result in the movie below:



I find the results quite interesting.

This is interresting, but, I'm not sure what conclusion I could have from this example. What preset do you use? no dither or Pow_r3?
