The value from a Push encoder (and continuous encoders from other devices) outputs a delta value of 1 < if turned to the right, and 127 > if turned to the left. These delta, relative values are not that useful for mapping to things.
Here is a simple Max encap that deals with this issue, and outputs an absolute value from 0 - 127 (by default). Sensitivity and new maximum input can be set.

Four inlets: value from encoder, sensitivity / speed multiplier, maximum accum value and set accum value directly.
One outlet: value from accumulator.
