Pozible Campaign for SquareSounds Melbourne 2014

Chiptune, if you're not aware, is music made using (or sometimes emulating) old school video game consoles, and the other style we showcase for Square Sounds, is "retrotech' (music that has a retro synth aesthetic). They aren’t the best known genres despite having a very devoted fan base here in Melbourne. As such, there are some names on our most wanted list for Square Sounds Melbourne 2014 that require a little more financial support than we can comfortably afford for a festival that is mostly a labour of love, so we’re turning to Pozible - and you - to help make this a reality.

The team at SoundBytes is very excited to not only be presenting a panel at PAX Australia on chiptunes, but also presenting the chip showcase on Friday night and we knew we wanted to put on a chip show around PAX time, but wanted to make sure we didn't mix a minute of the PAX experience.

Given that our good friends at Evelyn Hotel are also presenting some of the other PAX musical guests in the week post-PAX, we thought it was a great opportunity to get back to one of our favourite Melbourne venues, with a full and amazing line up of some familiar faces, as well as some amazing up and coming chip artists

Get ready for funtimes! Join Dr. little-scale as he presents a hands-on workshop - on how to build and use your very own USB MIDI sound chip module! This session will be based around the (in)famous AY38910 sound chip, as heard on countless chiptune tracks, arcade machines and obsolete video game consoles. The sound module itself is USB powered and is recognised as a MIDI device, so participants can use the module straight away. All parts are included, and although soldering is required, there's no need to stress because it's all very easy. The workshop will feature both constructing the sound module and a basic demo covering how to use the sound module.

You will need to bring Laptop with audio line input OR Laptop with external sound card. We will have soldering irons available, but if you are local and you have one, it would be great if you could bring it along so that we don't need to share.
