Picaxe 18X starter kit

So i ordered a picaxe 18x starter kit. And wow, it arrived today. Congrats, Microzed computing, i am very impressed with your service. It only took 20 hours to arrive from Sydney.

Little-scale has a myspace...

Don't worry, I'm not too much of an emo. Yet...

Although people that read this blog won't get anything out of going there. What I mean with this is that it's basically just a link back to this blog. So yeah. But it does have a nice version of the quick little cello quartet 'When Everything Was Simple'.

Milkcrate 12 video

I have started editing the video for The Seed (Milkcrate 12). This task is larger than i originally anticipated... so it may take a while. Also iMovie can be pretty annoying.

Milkcrate 14: Six Appeal page up

The webpage for Milkcrate 14: Six Appeal is up.

"After the limited restrictions imposed in the previous three sessions, Six Appeal marks a return to traditional milkcrate values. Newcomer Alice Keath joins five milkcrate veterans as they once again have to think inside the square.

With a mix of natural, unprocessed sounds and highly processed single-sample material, this milkcrate session presents a wide variety of musical output - from b-grade movie soundtracks to middle eastern metal solos and from chiptune inspired music to 90's euro techno and sound art, a number of tastes are catered for."

Milkcrate as an ABC Classic FM feature

Milkcrate will be featured as an ABC Classic FM item and on the ABC website in a few months. Tristan, Damian, Staffs and myself just finished an interview with Alice Keath. Keep tuned for more details before it airs.

Hidden Village article in the Sunraysia Daily

Here you can check out the article on Hidden Village in the Sunraysia Daily (the relatively local Mildura paper). It is based around an interview with Lauren. Strange thing is that the writer refers to Lauren as Sarah in all but the first paragraph. We think it might have something to do with the well-known netball player Sarah Sutter.

Army of gameboys...

My gameboy collection is growing over time (in fact, i just picked up a black gameboy pocket on the way back from mildura). So i have made a page called "Nintendo Handheld Console Comparisons" - here you can see all the different models, and eventually there will be a section where you can hear the difference. Here is the URL: http://www.milkcrate.com.au/_other/gbc/.

I am keeping track of the updates on the micro-scale blog.

Cheap source of multi cd playback

I finally got hold of an AT power supply (not ATX). Not that i was trying heaps hard - it just sort of fell into place. So here you can see three cd rom drives acting as standalone cd audio players. I would have more connected, but i left additional molex adaptors and the other cd rom drives at some other place.

All of this will fit into a bigger picture soon.

Mildura show video

I have uploaded a video with a 'cross section' of our show from last night. Check it out here. They also played some of our music on the local ABC rural radio and had a small article about us in the Sunraysia Times.

Overall it was a really good trip. Apart from the fact that my phone got run over by a semi-trailer.

You can see below a picture of our stage setup. Even with running the old grey gameboy on a nintendo power supply, there was not too much noise (i used a little bit of eq to get rid of a lot of it). I had to use the ds lite in the end, because the headphone adaptor on my gba sp has given up the ghost - it only plays on the left channel reliably now.

Hidden Village aka "Hidden Treasure"...

The Mildura / Wentworth Arts Festival program came out recently. We are billed as "Hidden Treasure". So if you are in Mildy (unlikely...) come and see us. Thursday 15 March. At the Brewery.

Thanks to Kim Chalmers for this gig.

Below you can see a picture of most of our setup for the show. A mixer. Some *very* cheapo pedals. A commodore (no screen). A gameboy advance. Software we are using is the Cynthcart and Nanoloop 2. Actually, I am very happy with the results.

LSDManager

I've put together a compilation cartridge with all the tracks Lauren and i will be working on for the hidden village show in a week and a half. This has been done with the java program LSDManager (by Kotlinksi).

Wow! I have used it before, if only to test it out - but it is a fantastic idea with great results. What you can do is take songs from an lsdj sram save file (.sav) and export them as individual files (.lsdsng). Individual songs can then be recombined in different orders etc to make up a new .sav, which can be flashed onto a cart.

Glitch collective mentioned in realtime magazine

An interview with my friend Tristan has appeared in the most recent version of the contemporary arts / film / theatre / music / sound / performance magazine Realtime. The Glitch Collective is mentioned in the article. Read it here.

Getting out the oscilloscope

A while ago i picked up a pretty cheap oscilloscope from work. Well, it was new and it was on sale, so who could blame me. Anyway, i finally got a chance to try it out. Of course, i didn't have the correct screwdrivers on me to calibrate it properly. But you still get the idea.

The first picture is of the ipod shuffle playing a 400hz sine tone. The second is of a gameboy playing a c3 on a pulse wave channel. You can really tell which wave shape was used on the gb, can't you... Anyway, i think those curves are due to the cro not being calibrated.
