Toriton plus prototype: first look

Okay, so I have been working on a more complex version of the Toriton musical instrument, called Toriton Plus. It involves using five lasers instead of just the one. You can check out a little video snippet here.

Please note that this is a prototype version, and as such does not represent the variety of output for the finished thing.

Man thats really cool. I watched your U-tube videos of both that one and the original Triton and I'm trying to decide which one I like more.

I like the the sounds of the original Triton when you get more complex with the patch.. e.g. Amplitude plus Frequncy modulation plus delay etc.

But I like the way the effect of having multiple sensors on this one creating like a ping pong delay effect.

I wonder how it would sound if each sensor was assigned a speaker, With all the speakers surrounding the audience?

Hi Luke,
Thanks for the comments. I am glad you like the 'tube vids.

Yes, I too have wondered what a five channel version would sound like... I really should give it a shot for the performance. It would be like the audience is sitting inside of the bowl of water!

Cheers,

I really like this. I am a real beginner at such things. What does the solar cell connect to?

Hi there!
Thanks for your comment. Unlike the original Toriton instrument (look here), this one uses light dependent resistors (LDRs) as a way to measure the lasers. Same difference, really, except that 100KΩ pots are used in conjunction with the LDRs in order to achieve a voltage change. If that makes sense!

Each LDR itself connects to one input on the AVR-HID unit. For more info on all of this see here:

Feel free to email me if I can help you out with anything! I am always willing to help out where I can!

Cheers,
Seb

Thank you very much for your response. I appreciate it! I will go off looking now. This sort of thing is what the Internet is about.. at it's best anyway! Thanks.
